The continued success of Lubbock Christian School in both academic and extra curricular endeavors requires a master plan. This includes new construction and renovation of existing facilities to ensure the advancement of the school's programs and goals. The Cornerstone Campaign is about preparing for a strong future by building on the solid foundation of the past. It is a comprehensive fundraising program initiated to raise the necessary funds to strengthen Lubbock Christian School ministries and programs, allowing for growth in the demand for Christian education in the greater Lubbock area.
In 2002, a long range planning committee was established to create a master plan for the current campus. A plan that will maximize the use of facility and green space for the next 60 years. The result of that plan was a 5 phase building initiative called the Cornerstone for the Future Campaign. In 2006, over $4.2 million was raised toward the completion of Phase 1: a state of the art science and music facility known as the E.K. Jr. & Estelle Hufstedler Science and Music Center.
Phase 2 saw the completion of the Eagle Athletic Center in 2010 and the addition of a cafeteria and kitchen. Through the generous financial support of LCS families and corporate sponsors, this athletic center now serves as home to a number of regional athletic tournaments and clinics, allowing tens of thousands of students and parents each year to experience the vibrancy of the LCS culture.
The Lord has continued to bless and LCS continues to grow like never before. In February 2014, school leadership conducted a feasibility study to examine the prospect of moving forward with the next phase of the Cornerstone Campaign and in March the results of that study came back with a resounding yes!. In April, a firm was hired to aid in the execution of Phase 3 of the Cornerstone Campaign: A state of the art, two story elementary building which will house students Pre K through 6th grade as well as an entirely revamped drop off/ pick up area that will greatly improve morning and afternoon traffic flow. Not only will this new facility retire the barracks which, now 75 years old, have become dilapidated and pose significant repair and maintenance challenges moving forward; but, will serve as a powerful first impression to Lubbock area families looking for quality Christian education.
Additionally, the Cornerstone 3 Campaign will include construction of a new multi-functional practice gym. This additional athletic space will impact not only the day to day physical education experience for students across all grades, but will allow the school to host a broader array of events including athletic tournaments, banquets and even large group meeting space.
The total cost of Phase 3 is projected to be $7.5 million dollars, an amount unprecedented in the life of the school. However, Lubbock Christian School has seen God provide in the past through the generosity of our families, friends and corporate sponsors and we are confident that as we each play the part that we’ve uniquely been called and gifted to play, we can impact the lives of Christian students and leaders for generations to come.
